| The internet is a way of doing business with more efficiency as far as time and energy both in physical and natural resources. With my experience the products are of finer quality, and contacts are made quicker and more accurate using the world wide web. Virtual worlds add dimentional navigation, not only is it more interesting, but the amount of information viewed and received are quadrupled. In the virtual world the flat monitor before you becomes liquid and you travel through into the depths.

If you add the additional views of a virtual reality world, then add sound and animation and there is no comparison to any other media short of a video tape delivered instantly. But this too can be incorporated in to the virtual world. The technology is now being used in simulators from flight training to surgical practices. |

With the increase in senses through virtual meeting/work places more information will be received. With an increase in realism the reason for movement of the actual person to a remote meeting location is not as important. Less moving can drastically decrease transportation costs and stress, increasing time for quality of life, and lessening health costs.

I also see the virtual world as a new artists medium with the monitor a fresh canvas for displaying the artists creations. In an article in US News and World Report describing Bill Gates new house in Seattle monitors were situated through out the house for viewing. When you arrive at the house your information is input to the computer and you wear a chip on your person. As you walk through the house sensors responding to the chip display personal art and your music favorites from the monitors that corresponded to the information you input into the computer.

Now getting back to the business aspect of meeting in a virtual world. Lets use a creative lucrative product that we must all use, clothing, and venture through the meeting, work, and exhibition areas, using the virtual reality worlds. The designer can model his creations in a virtual world. As he creates, he can expand his ideas and inspect them from a multiple level 3D canvas. Next the designers line can be gathered together in an exhibition world so as to create a meeting place for distributors to inspect his work. Remember this world can span geographical boundaries so as to save time and money. Now that the line is accepted and the manufacturing has begun consumers can work directly with distributors. This will decrease waste and in turn reap savings on the monetary plane as well as with the environment, using a create as ordered policy. |

Let us elaborate on the consumer involvement with the virtual world. The designer/artists work is not over. He now can create a exhibition area for the consumer. Adding animations and sound to enhance his product, he can use all four seasons, as they are happening, world wide, with no stock room congestion. Using interactive capabilities the consumer, could build a self model, to try on the clothing. The new saying would emerge "well it looked good in the virtual world."

Let us use another example, the travel industry. Planing a trip could be rehearsed and viewed through virtual worlds linked together with the virtual time and date. Ideal weather conditions could be simulated with music and sound added to set the feeling of the location. Starting world wide you could enter the location on the globe that seems to meet your fancy. Rather than a lot of words and pictures the real feeling of the location could be created. In New York, for example, chose Christmas time. There could be the sounds of the season throughout the city as you visit stores, museums, hotels, land marks and Broadway shows. If the hustle and bustle is too much, move over to Rhode Island, turn the season to summer, and go yachting around Newport viewing the famous castles. If summer pleases you, try virtual Hawaiian sunsets and the sounds of the tropics, birds singing wind blowing through the palm leaves, surf crashing on the beaches and the unmistakable Hawaiian music. |
Multiple visitors to worlds can enhance the virtual worlds like going to the mall with a friend, sharing a vacation experience or taking a new employee to an important meeting for a learning experience.
The value of virtual meeting work and exhibition worlds will be greatly acknowledged when weather, time, money and geographical distances prevent one from physically visiting real places.
